A plea for commonsense
Many of us have now had a few weeks to digest the news that we are
faced with the prospect of some very large wind turbines being placed on
our doorstep in the near future.
Whether or not you support renewable and greener ways of producing
our energy and I think most of us do, you have to wonder what has
become of a political system that allows such large scale developments
to potentially take place against the wishes of almost all local residents.
You may ask has the world gone mad when :
- A planning application for a 45 foot mobile mast in Falcutt was refused
because in the words of the South Northants Council planning officer
"the proposal by virtue of its siting and design, introduce a visually
prominent and intrusive form of development to the open countryside
detrimentally harming the visual quality and character of this rural
setting". Considering this refusal it is hard to understand that current
government planning policy could possibly advocate siting 5 x 410 foot
wind turbines in a similar proximity to the village.
- The fact that we don't live in a windy location doesn't really matter
because the government subsidies are so great that the developers will
generate profits no matter what the wind output from the turbines.
- Technical regulations governing the noise impact of wind turbines
permit measurement at an average level over a certain time period, so
the fact that a wind turbine makes an intermittent noise means it
actually appears quieter in the measurements than it actually is.
- Broadview Energy actually state on their website that they don't
believe property prices will be impacted. Hopefully you aren't thinking of
moving as we suggest you ask some local estate agents for their opinion
about how long it would take you to sell your house (never mind the
price).
We should question how one can put forward logical and common sense
arguments to argue against the proposed wind turbine development if
policy appears so illogical and badly thought through. However although
we recognise that we face a significant battle HSGWAG are 100%
committed to proving that the siting of the Broadview development is
completely inappropriate in our village setting.
It is for each individual to decide whether you wish to oppose the wind
turbine development at Spring Ridge Farm but it will be too late to have
misgivings should they be eventually be built. We urge you to support
the campaign in any way you are able, so our community can stand
together to fight this development.
