Health
The link between health and turbines is a controversial one. It is
suggested by some that living in close proximity to turbines can affect
those with photo sensitive epilepsy and only recently a wind turbine
appeal at Flixborough Grange in Lincolnshire (which was won by
villagers), demonstrated that those living nearby with autism can be
detrimentally affected.
Other academics have claimed that low frequency noise and amplitude
modulation (blade thump) can cause sleep deprivation and its associated
physical symptoms such as headaches, anxiety, heart palpitations etc.
Whilst no research has yet been fully accepted, the fact that the debate
continues to rage and that the Government itself commissioned an
investigation in 2005 (and then did not publish the full results) speaks
volumes.
HSGWAG are aware of a number of concerns from local people about the
potential health impact of having wind turbines situated so close to
houses particularly based on noise and shadow flicker. The issues raised
range from migraine, stress and sleeplessness amongst other health
concerns. We are investigating this subject thoroughly and will be
publishing more information on this where appropriate. If you feel you
have a particular health issue which may be exacerbated by wind
turbines please let us know via our feedback form
