Visual Impact

What can you do !
Visual impact is slightly different to landscape impact because it is
about how the turbines are perceived by "receptors" - those who live
near the turbines or those undertaking leisure pursuits such as
walking or horse riding.
Within a 2km radius, there will be an unacceptably high degree of
visual impact for residents who live, work and enjoy their leisure
pursuits in and around the site. This impact is unavoidable because
the turbines have been located in an area which does not allow for
sufficient set back distances to residential areas.
Village Impact
Wind farm developers often claim that there are only a couple of
properties which are unacceptably visually impacted by the erection
of wind turbines.
However in this case not only are there eight properties which border
the site at close range (one within 600m), properties in Helmdon,
Greatworth and the north south part of Sulgrave will also be visually
dominated by these industrial machines. Hundreds of properties may
have clear direct views towards the site, some unacceptably so.
All of Greatworth will be within 1.5km of the turbines, all of Helmdon
will be within 2km and Sulgrave's southern edge with direct
uninterrupted views across the ridge will only be around 2km. Halse
will also be 2km away and Radstone and Astwell a similar distance.
Developers often use the argument that it is only for 25 years, but
this is a generation or a third of someone's life. Particularly for
those properties bordering the site at close quarters, this is
unacceptable. No-one will compensate them for the blight their
houses will inevitably suffer and they will receive no benefits from
the proposal.
It must be remembered that if wind turbines are built on this land it
will effectively become a Brownfield site and then it will be much
easier for any other type of industrial development to achieve
planning permission.
