HSGWAG. Helmdon, Stuchbury and Greatworth Wind Farm Action Group
Windmast monitoring erected
Broadview erected their wind monitoring mast a few weeks ago halfway
between Greatworth and Helmdon just off the Welsh lane. The mast is
60 metres tall, less than half the height of the proposed turbines. The
mast is located in the central section of the proposed site.
One of the best community views in the area for Helmdonites, the view
across the viaduct from the bottom of Wappenham Road - will be totally
dominated and overshadowed by all five turbines. This can clearly be
seen now with the monitoring mast in place, as you drive down
Wappenham Road. It will be far worse than the mocked up picture you
can see on the home page of this website.
HSGWAG are surprised that Broadview, having had only a couple of
months of wind data, believe they are in a position to know whether
wind conditions are adequate to submit a planning application. It is not
unusual however for developers to drip feed information in during the
application process, making it harder to assess their proposal. But it
does illustrate how even in the least windy part of the UK, money made
from subsidies makes turbines economically viable.
